Tonight with a couple friends for dinner. Dinner consisted of (all compliments of Dorit):
Gevrey - Les Cazetiers 1985 L. Jadot
10/94. Acquired from Beaune Jun-94 for $36 (imported foe$45 net inc.
air-freight, handling, customs, etc.).
The second wine in tonight's dinner with a friend couple. One of the super 1er
Crus of Gevrey-Chambertin from Jadot's own domaine. Excellent vintage. Let it
breath for about 40 min.
COLOR: Medium dark red, slight paling towards edge.
NOSE: Strong, excellent typical Bourgogne aroma. Quite overwhelming variety of
scents but no discernable fruit. Earth, leather, mushroom, spices...the lot!
TASTE: Soft, unfelt tannins, a myriad of tastes happily married together to
bring out a powerful yet harmonious celebration in the mouth. Fruit was not
missed.
LENGTH: Taste continue to develop long after the last drop swallowed.
TEXTURE & BALANCE: A full bodied, perfect example of fully mature top-class
(B). Of the three prime elements (alcohol, acidity and tannins) NONE was felt,
yet they were all there.
The duck and cheese were not the most delicate of dishes (though super
duper!). This blockbuster wine of structure and flavors was what the
doctor said should go with the food.
OVERALL: This was one of the best red (B) I had in a long time. Probably at its
best now, though I'm not so sure for how long.
MARK: 18+/20.aaaaaaaaBUY MORE? Yes.
