Bienvenues Batard Montrachet 1983 Dom. Leflaive

10/95. Acquired from England for $152 (imported for $163 net).
Tonight, this 12-yrs-old super Grand Cru from one of the best producers in the Cote de Beaune. Dinner consisted of smoked trout in pesto sauce on a bed of fried slices of eggplant for starters, followed by grilled salmon in cream & basil sauce with pasta.
COLOR: The most beautiful deep and rich gold color imaginable.
NOSE: Immense! Profound bouquet of every conceivable fruit (except grapes!), minerals and 'fat' hazelnuts.
TASTE: A tiny amount in the mouth explodes on the palate with a myriad of flavors. Extremely rich taste, with accented tones of honey and butter.
LENGTH: Very long finish where the honey flavor stays for long time in the mouth. At times, this otherwise very dry wine, seemed almost like it was made from a botrytis infested grapes.
TEXTURE & BALANCE: A full bodied super concentrated wine. Not many dry white wines would feel as powerful as this mature great (B) does. The only thing that separates this magnificent wine from being a 100% divine, is the relative lack of acidity.
OVERALL: An superb wine in all respects for an extraordinary price. If you happen to have a bottle now is the time.
MARK: 18/20.aaaaaaaaBUY MORE? No.
