Nuits - Les Boudots 1985 J. Grivot

4/96. Acquired from England Feb-96 for $54 (imported for $69 net).
Tonight with some friends, our last bottle before our trip to France.
Nuits-St. Georges was never one of my favorite communes, so if I buy a Nuits I try to stick to the best producers.
COLOR: Mature (B) color, noticeable clearing towards the rim with some brownish hues.
NOSE: At first (and for about an hour) - excellent aroma of pronounced red fruit, some earthy tones and a beautiful 'Bourgogne Nose'. Towards the end the nose became a bit heavier.
TASTE: Very good taste that took some time to mellow. At first - very fruity and sweetish attack, a bit sour mid palate and noticeably tannic finish. As time went on, these distinctive elements harmonized into a much more rounded entity. A bit 'inelegant', but a totally satisfying and tasteful wine.
LENGTH: Almost no aftertaste whatsoever.
TEXTURE & BALANCE: Medium body, visible 'legs', very good fruit, a bit too acidic, tannins still abound. Not a prime example of delicacy, but 'fleshy' and still very good balance.
OVERALL: An excellent example of what a mature NSG 1er Cru can taste like. This wine is at its peak now, though I am not sure for how much longer.
MARK: 17/20.aaaaaaaaBUY MORE? Maybe.
