Chambolle - Les Amoureuses 1989 J. Drouhin

11/96. Acquired from Beaune June-94 for $43 (imported for $54 net).
The best 1er Cru from Chambolle-Musigny and one of Drouhin's most exalted wines.
COLOR: Typical translucent brick-red with slight clearing towards the rim.
NOSE: Fantastic mixture of red fruit, forest floor, bacon fat and delicate yet pronounced 'Bourgogne Nose' at its best. Perfetto!
TASTE: Surprisingly young for a seven years old 1er Cru. Abundant fruit, elegant tannins, discernible acidity - all felt separately. Extremely tasty and reasonably complex.
LENGTH: Medium long and very pleasant aftertaste.
TEXTURE & BALANCE: Medium bodied. Got all the ingredients of a greatly balanced wine in the right proportions. Deep and 'fleshy' wine but flavors not yet completely harmonized. Feels younger than it is.
OVERALL: Superb now and will no doubt improve for the next 3-5 years.
MARK: 18/20.aaaaaaaaBUY MORE? Yes.
