Nuits - Les Terres Blanches (W) 1994 D. Rion
2/97. Acquired at the Rion Domaine for $26 in Apr-96.
This is a real oddity. A 1er Cru white wine made from Pinot Blanc that grows
in a vineyard surrounded by Pinot Noir only.
Patrice Rion explained he found the chalky soil of this patch more suitable
for white than red, so re-planted it. The 1994 is only the second year this
wine was made.
COLOR: Quite palish straw color. Nothing spectacular.
NOSE: Excellent! Highly aromatic and promising. Rich minerals and northern
fruits. Polished, elegant and stylish on the nose.
TASTE: A bit austere for the first half our, developing into rich and
mouthfilling full wine as time passed. Still very young but extremely tasty.
LENGTH: Medium long very pleasant aftertaste that gets accentuated by
chewing the wine and breathing thru it.
TEXTURE & BALANCE: Full bodied, rich and complex. Not as buttery as a Cote
de Beaune white, but very good. Stood extremely well to a multi-flavored
homemade sushi.
OVERALL: Excellent+! Very well made wine. Far better than a mere curiosity.
Highly recommended.
MARK: 17+/20.aaaaaaaaBUY MORE? Yes.
