Grands Echezeaux 1985 R. Sirugue

12/97. Acquired at auction Dec-95 for $100 (Imported for $110 net).
My third bottle of this wonderful wine. Today with simple mid-week dinner of Beef & Chicken soup with rice, Spaghetti Bolognese, Cheese and Apple puree.
COLOR: On the lightish side of medium brick red. Noticeable clearing towards the rim.
NOSE: Marvelous aromas of dried cherries, chocolate, wet forest floor. All wrapped in a beautiful robe of 'Bourgogne Nose'. Very complex and profound nose but in a delicate way. Not the in-your-face fruit bomb.
TASTE: Even better than the nose! Sweetish mature fruit fills the mouth, while layers of secondary flavors play around the taste buds. Very silky, very elegant. Again, more delicate than powerful. The epitome of a great (B) on the palate.
LENGTH: Very long sweetish aftertaste, reverberating in the mouth long after a sip is swallowed.
TEXTURE & BALANCE: Medium bodied. Ample fruit, healthy acidity, very soft tannins. Complex, multi-layered winyness. Perfectly 'a point' now.
OVERALL: Superb-plus! Really fantastic wine at the peak of its life. Better than the previous bottles I've had a year and two years ago.
MARK: 18+/20.aaaaaaaaBUY MORE? Yes.
