Beaune - Vigne de l'Enfent Jesus 1989 Bouchard P&F

11/98. Bought in auction, May-96 for $50 (imported for $65 net).
I don't usually like the wines Bouchard Pere & Fils but this particular Beaune 1er Cru is a monopole sub-plot of the Greves vineyard belonging to that big negociant and the flagship of their Beaune wines.
I had this wine a couple of times in the past and enjoyed it very much.
COLOR: Medium dark red, normal look for a 9 years old (B). Some sediment was visible.
NOSE: Pronounced 'Bourgogne Nose' of the in-your-nose type. Raw meat, leather, wet forest floor, mushrooms - the whole kit. The fruit is there but heavy and coarse as indeed is the overall impression of the nose in general.
TASTE: Very light, very smooth. Easy to drink and pleasant enough but pretty tired and lack of any grip or stuffing. Obviously beyond its peak.
LENGTH: Almost no aftertaste whatsoever.
TEXTURE & BALANCE: Fruit is still there as are some tannins, but the shallow winyness and weak acidity are both too apparent.
OVERALL: Very-good-plus but far from exciting. This wine saw better days.
MARK: 16.5/20.aaaaaaaaBUY MORE? No.
