Vosne - Les Beaux Monts 1990 D. Rion

12/98. Bought from Patrice Rion at the cellar Apr-96 for $30.
A third of this bottle was used by Dorit to make Oeuf Bourguignon, one of my favorite dishes. Happy that the recipe didn't call for the whole bottle, we enjoyed the rest of the wine with the food.
COLOR: Medium darkish red, only slightly clearing towards the rim.
NOSE: Deep, rich and elegant. Not subdued but neither 'shouting'. Oriental spices and some wood notes. Very 1990ish in its fruit opulence and the restraint 'Bourgogne Nose'.
TASTE: Smooth, soft, with sweetish semi-mature flavors. Fresh black fruit and lots of winyness. Fine, delicate and tasty. Very harmonic with suitable grip and backbone.
LENGTH: Medium-short aftertaste that continues the elegance of the taste.
TEXTURE & BALANCE: Medium bodied, elegant but yielding. Concentrated fruit in velvet texture. Excellent acidity and supportive soft tannins add balance to this beautifully crafted wine.
OVERALL: Excellent-plus! A fantastic example of affordable Vosne 1er Cru by a good producer and a terrific vintage. Around its peak now though will easily last 4-5 years.
MARK: 17+/20.aaaaaaaaBUY MORE? Yes.
