Clos de Tart 1990 Mommessin

1/99. Acquired from Beaune, June-94 for $72 (imported for $96 net).
My first taste of this ancient monopole Grand Cru vineyard in Morey-St. Denis.
Tonight, with mushroom stew and beef roast.
COLOR: Fairly dark ruby red with noticeable clearing around the rim.
NOSE: Excellent rich nose. Both primary aromas of red berries and the more complex elements of earthy 'Bourgogne Nose' are evident. Deep, multi-layered and forward, though not particularly delicate
TASTE: Mouthfilling winyness with good fruit, measured acidity, both hard and soft tannins and good grip. Tasty and full of presence on the palate. Something hard and angular at the end of the taste.
LENGTH: Short but pleasant aftertaste.
TEXTURE & BALANCE: Medium-full body. A bit on the rustic side but full of nuances and flavors. Superb winyness and perfect balance. Not very elegant but expressive and harmonious.
OVERALL: Excellent-plus! Not a great (B) but better than I expected. Quite ready now
MARK: 17.5/20.aaaaaaaaBUY MORE? Maybe.
