Ch. Sociando-Mallet 1990 Haut-Medoc

3/99. From my friend Oded Lerer's cellar.
Oded opened this excellent Cru Bourgeois for us on an impromptu visit and wonderful dinner.
COLOR: Deep purple with hardly any clearing around the rim. Noticeable sediment at the bottom.
NOSE: Very nice and clean dark forest-fruit with light smokiness but no 'Bordeaux Nose' of cedar, tobacco or 'pencil tip'. Pretty much open though I felt it still has something in reserve.
TASTE: Rich and tasty though perhaps not extremely complex. A strong presence on the palate with good fruit, pleasant acidity and noticeable tannins that do not distract..
LENGTH: Medium long aftertaste that is just a little bit tannins-dominated.
TEXTURE & BALANCE: Full bodied, vibrant and masculin. Impressive concentration and very nice balance. Seems to be just short of full maturity with many years of pleasure giving ahead.
OVERALL: Superb!! An extremely pleasant surprise (for me!) from a humble Cru Bourgeois. Probably excellent value too.
MARK: 18/20.aaaaaaaaBUY MORE? Yes.
