Cote Rotie 'Brune et Blonde' 1991 E. Guigal

7/99. Bought in England, May-99 for $54.
"Guigal" and "Cote Rotie" are like "Jaboulet" and "Hermitage" or "Perrin" and "Chateauneuf du Pape". The natural pairing between an appellation and its most revered champion. Granted, 'Brune et Blonde' is not 'La Mouline' or 'La Landonne'. But it doesn't cost anything like these do either!
Yesterday we took a bottle to our good friends Migri & Pietro, who invited us for a nice dinner.
COLOR: Nice red-black Rhone color. Some clearing around the rim is evident.
NOSE: Deep profound and enticing. Gobs of ripe black fruit, distinct spice aromas, and that beautiful barnyardy but clean 'Rhone Nose'. Mature, forward and completely yielding.
TASTE: Rich and voluptuous on the palate. Warm and mouthfilling winyness with excellent fruit. Round and velvety with soft receding tannins and good backbone. Very tasty and complex juice!
LENGTH: Reasonably long and pleasant aftertaste.
TEXTURE & BALANCE: Medium-full body. Mature fruit, silky texture, measured acidity and dying tannins. Perfectly balanced. 'A point' now!
OVERALL: Superb! A delicious wine in every respect. Not sure it will gain from further aging though.
MARK: 18/20.BUY MORE? Yes.
