Pomino Rosso 1996 Frescobaldi

12/99. Bought locally Dec-99 for $29.
Yet another Tuscan wine from the Frescobaldi stable. Mostly Sagnovese though other grapes are in there too.
A mid-week wine that was bought locally for the usual triple-than-should-be price (though in this particular case it may have been only double than normal international market price)
COLOR: Full ruby red with garnet hues around the rim.
NOSE: Full and forward nose of fresh ripe fruit with some vanilla and other wood elements. Initially nice and clean, but after a while in the glass an off, milky yeasty smell develops. (a new pour from the bottle is very pleasant again for the first 10 minutes)
TASTE: Again, fresh fruit fills the mouth. Quite tannic on the palate but the intensity of the fruit and the good acidity balance the tannins and reduce their effect. Similar to the nose, the wine develops an odd taste after a while.
LENGTH: Medium length but pleasant aftertaste.
TEXTURE & BALANCE: Medium weight in body, this wine has nice and appealing fruity qualities. It is well balanced too except for the odd smell and taste it develops in the glass after being exposed for more than 10 minutes. Not particularly deep or complex but quite tasty with its own character.
OVERALL: Very Good. Nicer than Frescobaldi Nipozzano Chianti I had a while ago but not a really fine wine.
MARK: 16/20.BUY MORE? Maybe.
