Gaudium 'Gran Vino' 1994 Marques de Caceres

1/2002. Bought in Spain Jan-01 for $44.
A super-modern Rioja made from 75% old Tempranillo vines and 25% Cabernet.
COLOR: Very dark ruby red. Very slight clearing around the rim.
NOSE: Good deep fruit with chocolate coffee and discernible oak. But the usual "dusty" nose so typical of Rioja wines is a bit funky and quite unpleasant here.
TASTE: Better than the nose. Concentrated and elegant on the palate with depth of flavors. Still not fully developed but potentially serious wine.
LENGTH: Medium length.
TEXTURE & BALANCE: Medium bodied wine that is well structured, concentrated and reasonably complex. Still young and not yet completely harmonized.
OVERALL: Good-Plus. Would be marked considerably higher if not for the unpleasant element in the nose.
MARK: 16.5/20.BUY MORE? No.
