Rioja 'Reserva' 200 Monges 1996 Vinicola Real

1/03. Bought locally, Jan-03 for $37.
Made from old vines comprising 85% Tempranillo 10% Graciano and 5% Mazuelo. This wine spends two years in new French and American barriques.
COLOR: Medium ruby, slight clearing around the rim..
NOSE: Very nice, complex and clean nose. Red fruit and chocolate with a touch of vanilla and caramel. Really nice and harmonious nose.
TASTE: Mouthfilling fleshy wine. Reasonably concentrated with excellent fruit, good winyness, balancing acidity and round receding tannins. Very very tasty.
LENGTH: Medium long and pleasant aftertaste.
TEXTURE & BALANCE: Medium-full body. Well made well balanced harmonious wine. Ready to drink now but will last.
OVERALL: Very Fine. It is very easy to fall in love with this gem.
