Grattamacco 1997 Grattamacco

12/04. Bought locally Apr-01 for $72.
My last bottle of this unusual wine. How I wish now that I didn't drink the others when they were still too young, and how many times I (and I believe you too) felt this way...
Made from Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Sagnovese this is a serious "french" wine with an italian touch from the Bolgheri region in western Tuscany.
COLOR: Very dark violet red, hardly any clearing around the rim. Noticeable sediment.
NOSE: Very deep very serious nose of black fruit, cherries, sweetish blackcurrant some tar and oak notes. Very impressive.
TASTE: Finally, at seven years of age, it is yielding. Deep, concentrated and winey this wine reveals layer after layer of multi-dimensional multi-flavored fruit flavors. Focused, expressive, with firm backbone to support its ripe tannins and balancing acidity.
LENGTH: Extremely long and reverberating aftertaste.
TEXTURE & BALANCE: Full bodied, impressive and serious. Definitely not your takeaway pizza wine! Superbly balanced.
OVERALL: Outstanding! Perfectly drinkable now but will last for years to come.
MARK: 19/20.BUY MORE? Yes.
